I've been a little obsessed with Bitcoin lately, however there is one problem that I would like to try to solve for the Bitcoin community. I would like to propose a user interface redesign for the wallet, Bitcoin-QT.
No offense to the Bitcoin-QT developers, but the GUI needs some TLC. This is a typical situation in software and web development: genius developers working on the back end, while also attempting to design the front end; which is an entirely different ball game.
Above is a rough mockup of what I propose for the GUI. Personally, I don't think we need a complete overhaul. I think the application is simple in nature and just needs some standard user interface techniques applied for usability. Aside from the obvious graphical changes, here is a list of other changes I've proposed:
- I believe the Send/Receive functionality has a high importance, so I've given them their own buttons away from the other tabs.
- The Recent Transactions table has an improved layout and now shows 10 transactions.
- Added to the overview is a block for recently used addresses. I thought it would be convenient to list them directly on the overview. Perhaps the user can double-click on an address to copy to clipboard. Another idea is for a contextual menu to pop u showing other items such as showing the QR code dialog box.
Should I continue working on this? Is there anyway that I can get this implemented? I am open to suggestions, so please feel free to drop me a line or leave a comment below and let me know what you think! I would love to revamp the rest of this amazing piece of software and more importantly, contribute and become a part of the Bitcoin movement!
Tips are gratefully accepted! :)
